Those requiring a knowledge of the current legislation affecting the use of abrasive wheels on fixed and portable equipment and their practical application.

Course Aim

The aims of the course are to provide delegates with an understanding of the legislation affecting abrasive wheels as stated in

  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
  • The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.

Course Content

  • Approved advisory literature relating to the mounting of abrasive wheels.
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels.
  • Methods of storing and inspecting abrasive wheels.
  • Selection of the correct wheel as to type, speed, material to be cut, etc.
  • The requirements of the current legislation.
  • Practice in the correct procedure for mounting, truing and dressing abrasive wheels on fixed equipment.
  • Practice in the correct procedure for mounting depressed centre grinding and cutting discs on portable equipment.
